The training was conducted for the exchange program between Sakai City and Cardiff, Wales

On October 26, Prof. Dylan Jones, the Director of The Center for Global Education and Research, visited Sakai City Hall to conduct pre-training for 18 junior high school students from Sakai City who will travel to Wales in March.

The training was part of an exchange program between Sakai City and Cardiff, the capital of Wales, and the students learned more about the U.K. and Wales, especially Welsh culture and the Welsh language. Along with Prof. Jones, Ms. Haruka Nakagawa, a teacher at HarueNishi Elementary School, guided the students. Ms. Nakagawa, a former program participant, studied to be a teacher at the School of Education, University of Fukui (UF), and now teaches both music and English. She was the perfect mentor for the students.

During the training, the students were actively engaged in their learning, including the challenge of singing the Welsh national anthem. The students impressed the teachers with their extraordinary enthusiasm for learning Welsh, a completely foreign language.

Prof. Jones and Ms. Nakagawa were impressed by the intelligence and enthusiasm of the students and said, “Their willingness to learn is amazing, and we look forward to their visit to Wales in March.”

The resumption of this program has been a great pleasure for Sakai City students who have not visited Wales for more than five years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The students will participate in a final training session in January in preparation for their trip to Wales.

Through this exchange program, students are expected to gain valuable experience in deepening their cross-cultural understanding and developing an international perspective.
